About Irene Pruitt
In counseling, I offer a compassionate listening ear, the wisdom of the Catholic faith, and proven methods to help you heal wounds from the past, reshape present patterns and relationships, and discover a new path into a healthy and joyful future.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Supervisor in Virginia, and have over seventeen years of experience in providing counseling in a variety of settings. I received a Bachelors in Science from Georgetown University, and a Masters of Science from Virginia Tech, where I studied Marriage and Family Therapy.
I can offer support through:
Couples therapy—Strengthening marriages and helping to build vibrant families is especially important to me. I use a combination of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman Therapy to help couples reshape patterns, heal past hurts, and deeply connect with each other.
Healing Wounds from the Past—In individual therapy, I help people process past hurts, so that they can heal and move forward into a joyful future. In particular, I use Internal Family Systems (IFS) Counseling and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), both of which help people work through and heal from trauma.
Motherhood Therapy—I am honored to offer counseling specifically tailored to support mothers. I have additional training in Maternal Mental Health, and a passion for helping mothers find the healing and support that they need, both for themselves and their families.
In addition to my work at Sacred Heart Counseling, I have had the privilege to serve the wider community in a number of other roles:
Associate Professor/Clinical Facilitator for the Counseling Residency program of Divine Mercy University
Counseling consultant for the course Fathers and Sons: Conversations on Marriage, Sex Ed, and Masculinity, by Forge
Counselor for the Diocese of Arlington Loving Through Loss Couples’ Workshop, in conjunction with Redbird Ministries, a retreat for couples who have lost a child
Counselor Presenter on parenting styles and healthy marriage for the Diocese of Arlington Conference for the Engaged
